Precisely what is Digital Security?
It is a term which includes tools you can use to secure a transaction, identity, assets and technology. The idea is to have trust in exchange of data between user and a network or the cloud (or user to user interaction through a network).
Data security breaks into 3 sections:
– Integrity: Assurance that data that is secured has not been modified or corrupted. Good example of that is ‘end-to-end encryption’.
– Confidentiality: Privacy and limit of data’s availability to specified people of the organization.
– Availability: Interactions and transactions that can run convincingly at all times.
There are various ways to authenticate but they all come down to a person having something only they know (like a password) or something unique they ‘are (biometrics such as fingerprints).
As mobile industry has caught up to the digital security standards they have provided us with easy to use authentication methods such as Face ID or fingerprints to authenticate use of a financial application. This creates a wonderful starting point as we are able to add additional tiers and build upon the authentication method.
